Welcome

How do you want South Federal Way to look in the future?

We need to think ahead and plan for smart ways to manage our changing city. We want to work with you to frame South Federal Way, or simply "City South," in ways that support and welcome current and future residents and visitors.

What is Framing City South?

Framing City South is our way of asking you what you think about this area. We want you to help us understand what you like about this part of town today and help us envision what it could be in the future.

When we talk about City South, we're generally referring to the area around the future South Federal Way Link light rail station. Sound Transit is still evaluating locations for the station, but in general the station area is framed by S 344th St to the north, I-5 to the east, S 359th to the south, and SR 99 to the west. Today, you’re probably most familiar with the shopping and restaurants in the area.

Past, present, and future

City South has changed over time!

Cities and towns change constantly based on community values and market trends. City South has already seen significant changes over the past 30 years. Today, we have the opportunity to evaluate what we like about this area and discuss the type of future City South we would like to see.

Use the slider on the map below to see how City South has developed over the last 30 years.

City South today

How should City South continue to change?

Since Federal Way became a city in 1990, new development has made this area into a major hub of business and activity. We can expect growth and future investments, including light rail, to continue changing this area. At this early stage, we need your help to make sure we're planning for the best possible future!

We have described several types of places below to help you think about the future of City South. Think about what elements of these places might fit into your vision for City South.
